Empowering Independent Filmmakers to Build Sustainable Careers

ReImagine Indie is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing the mentorship, community, and infrastructure that independent filmmakers need—but rarely have access to.

Why We Exist

Every year, thousands of talented filmmakers and theater artists complete their projects—and then struggle to find audiences. Not because their work isn't good, but because they lack the knowledge, resources, and support systems to navigate marketing, distribution, and sustainable revenue generation.

Film schools teach production. Theater conservatories teach performance. Festivals provide exposure. But there's a critical gap: Who teaches independent artists how to actually reach audiences and build careers?

Traditional industry gatekeepers aren't the answer. Neither are expensive consultants who do the work for you without transferring skills. Independent storytellers—whether on screen or stage—need comprehensive mentorship that treats them as capable professionals learning a new craft.

That's why ReImagine Indie exists.

We believe independent voices deserve the same infrastructure, mentorship, and support that studio-backed filmmakers and institutional theaters take for granted. We're building it—one artist, one project, one sustainable career at a time.

Our Roots in Film & Theater

ReImagine Indie was founded by two storytellers with deep roots in both film and theater. This dual perspective shapes everything we do.

From theater, we bring:

  • Deep understanding of live performance and audience connection

  • Experience building productions from script through opening night

  • Knowledge of ensemble collaboration and artistic community

  • Respect for the craft of stagecraft, direction, and performance

From film, we bring:

  • Understanding of production, post-production, and distribution

  • Knowledge of festival circuits and independent cinema landscapes

  • Experience with visual storytelling and cinematic language

  • Strategic thinking about marketing and sustainable release

While our Filmmaker Labs focus exclusively on film, theater remains central to our mission. Our community programming includes support for theater artists, and our vision for a permanent venue includes live theatrical performances alongside film screenings. We believe both mediums deserve support, infrastructure, and celebration.

We're storytellers supporting storytellers—across all mediums.

Our Approach:
With You, Not For You

We don't do your marketing—we mentor you as you do it yourself. Every strategy, every piece of content, every decision is yours to make. We provide expert guidance, proven frameworks, honest feedback, and accountability. You build the skills that will serve you for every film you make.

Our model:

Experiential Education • You learn by doing, on your actual film, with expert guidance at every step

Long-Term Mentorship • Weekly sessions over 12-24 months, not a weekend workshop or one-off consultation

Filmmaker Ownership • You retain all rights, make all decisions, and own your entire strategy

Accessibility First • Sliding scale pricing, scholarships, and payment plans ensure access isn't limited to the wealthy

Community-Centered • You're part of a cohort of filmmakers learning and growing together

Our Values

1. Filmmaker Empowerment We believe filmmakers are capable of extraordinary things when given proper guidance and support. Our role is to unlock potential, not do the work for them.

2. Radical Accessibility Quality mentorship shouldn't be available only to those who can afford premium prices. We actively work to make our programs accessible through scholarships, sliding scale, and partnerships.

3. Sustainable Careers One successful film isn't enough. We measure success by whether filmmakers can build lasting careers—multiple projects, sustainable income, growing audiences.

4. Community Over Competition Independent filmmakers succeed together, not in isolation. We foster collaboration, mutual support, and collective growth.

5. Honest Feedback We don't blow smoke. We provide direct, actionable feedback because we respect filmmakers enough to tell them the truth.

Looking Ahead

ReImagine Indie's work goes beyond individual filmmaker mentorship. We're building toward a future where independent storytelling—on screen and on stage—has permanent infrastructure in Los Angeles.

Our labs focus on film, providing comprehensive mentorship from script to sustainable release. But our broader mission encompasses all forms of independent storytelling.

We're working toward:

  • Growing our filmmaker labs to serve more artists each year

  • Building robust community programming for filmmakers and theater artists

  • Securing a permanent venue for independent film screenings and live theatrical performances

  • Creating opportunities for theater artists to develop and showcase new work

  • Establishing LA as a hub where independent voices across all mediums can thrive

This isn't about quick wins. We're building infrastructure that will serve independent storytellers for generations—whether they work with cameras, stages, or both.

Our Structure

ReImagine Indie is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization currently operating under fiscal sponsorship through Fractured Atlas while we build toward independent nonprofit status.

What this means:

  • We operate as a nonprofit with full tax-exempt status

  • Donations are tax-deductible

  • We're held to nonprofit standards of transparency and accountability

  • Fractured Atlas provides financial and administrative infrastructure during our startup phase

We're targeting January 2026 to file for independent 501(c)(3) status as we establish our founding board and operational systems.

Be Part of the Movement

Whether you're a filmmaker ready to apply, a donor who believes in independent voices, or a potential partner who shares our vision—there's a place for you at ReImagine Indie.
